Notes:
Design drawing brought by Sís as inspiration for glass piece to be made at GlassLab. Drawing includes two birds, one below other, with heads pointing upwards. Bird in upper section is larger in shape with wings pointing downwards; bird in lower section is smaller with outstretched wings pointing upward. Both birds rest on circular base.
Sís collaborated with gaffer Chris Rochelle in June 2012 during his time at GlassLab at The Corning Museum of Glass. The glass object that resulted from this drawing is GL195, Flying bird prototype, made with transparent blue, colorless, and opaque green glass that was blown and hot-worked with applied decoration; it is a bird-shaped hollow sculpture with two applied colorless wings and two applied green eyes.
Sís is an illustrator, author, and filmmaker who was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia in 1949; he attended the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague and the Royal College of Art in London.
GlassLab provides an opportunity for designers and glassmakers to collaborate by using hot glass as a catalyst for innovation.
