Variant Title:
Design drawing for prototype sculpture
Design drawing brought by Sís as inspiration for glass piece to be made at GlassLab. Drawing includes two birds side by side. Bird on left has body of interconnected puzzle-like pieces and head looking upwards; bird on left has outstretched wings, long beak, and four feather-like adornments on top of head.
Sís collaborated with gaffer Chris Rochelle in June 2012 during his time at GlassLab at The Corning Museum of Glass. This drawing probably helped guide the making of GL196, Hoopoe, a hollow bird-shaped sculputure with two applied wings and comb on top of head.
Sís is an illustrator, author, and filmmaker who was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia in 1949; he attended the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague and the Royal College of Art in London.
GlassLab provides an opportunity for designers and glassmakers to collaborate by using hot glass as a catalyst for innovation.
