Four design drawings brought by Thorpe as inspiration for glass piece to be made at GlassLab. Thorpe reinterpreted a carafe designed by his great uncle, Paolo Venini; his would have a similar base and interior cavity as Venini's but the overall shape would be reinterpreted.
Three of the drawings feature one vase and one drawing features two side by side; the stopper floats above the vase in the forth drawing to showcase its design and functionality.
Thorpe collaborated with gaffer Chris Rochelle July 10-11, 2012 during his time at GlassLab at The Corning Museum of Glass. The glass object that resulted from this drawing is GL204.
Thorpe is an architect and industrial designer; he set up the New York-based firm, Marc Thorpe Design, in 2005.
GlassLab provides an opportunity for designers and glassmakers to collaborate by using hot glass as a catalyst for innovation.
"marc thorpe design" logo appears on each drawing as does "Venini Art glass".
