"This is a material culture study of the 17th century façon de Venise drinking vessels recovered archaeologically at St. Mary's City, Maryland. The glassware is defined and explored through its decorative elements. Research reveals a rich collection in surprisingly high quantities on nine St. Mary's City sites and a likely Dutch origin for many of the vessels. Interesting behavioral inferences are considered, and special forms of vessels are investigated. Whimsy, comets, winged serpents, passen décor, and a hiding pit are considered"--P. i.
