Promotional booklet.
Includes descriptions of cutting and engraving glass and principal Hawkes pattern names, illustrations of various patterns, and decorating techniques of cutting and engraving.
Booklet must be dated after 1896 (cf. p. 26) and before 1901-1902 since it uses the old trademark. Patent dates of the patterns within were also considered in dating. CF. p. 186-188 of Farrar and Spillman's "The Complete Cut & Engraved Glass of Corning."
Back and front covers are identical to the later edition, but illustrations are mostly different, text varies slightly, and the list of patterns on p. 21 is considerably different.

First illustration is that of a candlestick with a burning candle and pattern list on p. 21 begins with Aberdeen.
