Letter details Stiegel's request for financial assistance from Yeates as Stiegel faced bankruptcy. Yeates, a friend of Stiegel's, was a lawyer and judge in Lancaster. His appeal to Yeates presumably failed as Stiegel entered debtor's prison in late November or early December 1774. Stiegel lost the deed to his factory on March 30, 1775. The factory was not operable after 1780 and was demolished in 1812.
