Memo states that the "last Portland Vase you have sent us is dented (cracked) in the body and is useless. It left us soured and how was it you polished it in its present condition?" Also included is a post script: "It is quite easy to tell whether they are sound by tapping them."
Additional notations, probably a copy of the reply, penciled in on right side of memo and dated "Sept 2nd/79".
"Gold Medal Paris Exhibition, 1878" -- typed in red ink along upper edge.
