"Glass sherds, which had apparently been buried in close association for about 430 years, exhibited markedly different weathering phenomena ... Chemical analyses of the unaltered glasses failed to reveal a clear explanation for the differences in behaviour. It is concluded that the weathering phenomena in glass are so complicated that an examination of the crusts and weathering layers will not be useful for dating sherds"--P. 40.
