Experiments in breaking glass.
Toots Zynsky, glass artist.
Filmed 1973 at Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington.
This is documentation of some of the experimental performance work with glass that Buster Simpson and Dale Chihuly encouraged their students to explore in the early years at Pilchuck Glass School. The performance investigates the different ways that glass may be made to break, and the different sounds that it makes. It was performed by Zynsky and shot by Simpson. This kind of investigation into glass was essential for early American studio glass artists to get to know the material and to discover how far they could push it.
