Melissa Vandenberg Guest Artist Demonstration

Watch multidisciplinary artist Melissa Vandenberg in this demonstration in the Amphitheater Hot Shop on March 14, 2019. A Rockwell Collaborative Guest Artist, Vandenberg's work is part of The Rockwell’s exhibition series, Antigravity: A Space for Contemporary Perspectives. Inspired by relics of Americana, eastern religious practices, and an overall nostalgia for vintage materials, Vandenberg creates sculptures and installations that address the fleeting nature of power and a lack of permanence with both the tangible and metaphysical. Born and educated in Detroit, Vandenberg earned a BFA from Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, and an MFA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She currently lives and works in eastern Kentucky where she is an associate professor of art at Eastern Kentucky University.

The Guest Artist Series features world-class visiting artists at work in the Amphitheater Hot Shop. The Guest Artist Series provides a fascinating peek at the techniques, artistry, and improvisation that comprise contemporary glassmaking. Our own Hot Glass Demo Team assists and narrates for each artist, answering audience questions in real time.
